The AirFit F40 is ResMed's compact full face mask. It covers the nose and mouth like a traditional full face mask, but with a smaller cushion and a frame that sits low on the face, so it appeals to people who need full face support and dislike bulk. This guide explains what is different about it, who it suits, and how it compares with the other full face masks we stock in the UAE.

What is different about the F40

  • AdaptiSeal cushion. Made from soft silicone that flexes with facial movement, so the seal holds when you turn in your sleep.
  • Low-profile frame. The frame stays clear of the eyes and the bridge of the nose, which reduces the pressure marks people associate with full face masks.
  • Quick-release short tube. The short tube detaches with one hand for a trip to the bathroom without pulling the headgear off.
  • Simple headgear. A soft textile headgear with no top strap, so there are fewer adjustments to get wrong.

Who it suits

The F40 is a good match for mouth breathers who found the AirFit F20 too large, for side sleepers who want a compact frame, and for people on higher pressures who need a full face seal rather than a nasal mask. It is less suitable if you prefer the tube connection on top of the head, in which case the F30i is the better choice.

Sizing and fitting

Like other ResMed masks the F40 comes in several cushion sizes. ResMed's advice is to fit the mask lying in your normal sleeping position with the machine running, keep the straps as loose as possible while still sealing, and choose the larger size if you fall between two. Full details are in our mask sizing and fitting guide. If you send us your current mask model and size through the compatibility center, we will suggest the equivalent F40 size.

Care

Wipe the cushion daily and wash the cushion, frame and headgear weekly in warm water with mild detergent. In the UAE, air conditioning and dust shorten cushion life, so inspect it monthly and expect to replace it every one to three months. See the cleaning and replacement schedule.

The F40 is compatible with standard CPAP and BiPAP machines from ResMed, Löwenstein and Resvent. It is not compatible with the AirMini travel machine, which uses its own mask setup packs. Mask choice should follow your clinician's guidance where one has been given.
